Job Description
NSC Staffing is currently hiring for Marine Mechanics/Outside Machinist for work in Portsmouth, VA. The ideal candidate must have 6 plus years experience.
Marine Mechanic Qualifications:
a. Graduate of high school or GED equivalent, trade school, industrial school, appropriate military school.
b. Six (6) years’ experience as a Marine Equipment Mechanic or a licensed Marine Equipment Mechanic Journeyman.
c. Superior trade knowledge of mechanical principles of the operating of machinery, of hydraulics, the machining of metals, of mathematics and of basic physics and general science.
d. Ability to operate, set up and align various portable tools used in the trade as well as the ability to use such precision measuring instruments as height gauges, depth gauges, calipers, venires, lay-out tools, vibrio tachometers, stroboscopic tachometers, vibration indicators.
e. Experience reflects installation of ship machinery such as, but not limited to, propelling machinery, auxiliary motors, pumps, valves, launchers, discharge machinery, ventilation equipment, steering gear, evaporators, heaters, pumps, condensers, propulsion plants, torpedo tubes, shutter doors, antennas mast mechanical groups (MMG), and periscopes.
f. Tests and inspects installed machinery and equipment during dock and sea trials.
g. Ability to apply and interpret blueprints, sketches, and specifications and to apply manual skills in dissembling, repairing and building equipment and machinery.
