Schedule: Full-time position with four 10-hour shifts per week plus shared call responsibilities among CVOR CSTs.

‍⚕️ Candidate Preferences: While all experience levels are considered, candidates with pediatric cardiac surgery experience are preferred, followed by those with  OR background . Ambitious newcomers with a passion for learning are welcome too!

\n‍⚕️ Clinical Expertise and Support\n

\n
• Recognized by surgeons as exceptionally qualified.
\n
• Anticipates surgeon’s needs throughout procedures and assists efficiently.
\n
• Holds in-depth knowledge of specific surgical specialties or broad knowledge across many.
\n
• Ensures medications are labeled and handed to surgeons according to policy.
\n
• Supports cost containment through efficient use of materials and equipment.
\n

\n \n️ Operating Room Preparation and Maintenance\n

\n
• Sets up surgical instruments, sterile drapes, and solutions before procedures.
\n
• Assembles and verifies functionality of both sterile and non-sterile equipment.
\n
• Maintains asepsis in the operating room and restocks post-operation.
\n
• Cleans, stores, and secures all equipment and instruments.
\n
• Applies aseptic techniques and ensures safety regarding explosive hazards.
\n

\n \n‍♂️Patient Preparation and Assistance\n

\n
• Prepares patients for surgery by washing, shaving, and prepping incision sites.
\n
• Transports patients to operating room and assists with positioning and draping.
\n
• Helps surgical team don sterile gowns and gloves.
\n

\n \n✂️ Intraoperative Responsibilities\n

\n
• Hands instruments and sutures to surgeons and assistants promptly.
\n
• Cuts sutures, holds retractors, manages suction, and sponges operative sites.
\n
• Assists with surgical counts of sponges, needles, supplies, and instruments.
\n
• Prepares and handles specimens for lab analysis and applies dressings.
\n

\n \n Training and Leadership\n

\n
• Coordinates daily supervision of surgical technicians.
\n
• Serves as shift Lead, resolving questions and operational issues.
\n
• Teaches theoretical principles and technical skills to students and new staff.
\n
• Serves as a resource for other staff and assists the head nurse with precepting.
\n
• Precepts others in specialty colleges.
\n

\n \n Supplies, Equipment, and Process Improvement\n

\n
• Oversees repairs, ordering, and maintenance of specialty service equipment, lasers, and instruments under clinician direction.
\n
• Supervises use of supplies and equipment for safe patient care.
\n
• Demonstrates initiative in solving patient and technical issues to improve OR operations.
\n
• Identifies and assists in implementing process improvements.
\n

\n \n Communication and Collaboration\n

\n
• Exhibits excellent communication skills with surgeons, specialty team members, and departments.
\n
• Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams and serves as a resource across disciplines.
\n
• Other duties as assigned.
\n

\n

\n
• Open to all levels of experience. Peds cardiac experience is a plus.
\n
• Completion of a formal surgical technician program offered by a community or junior college, vocational school, university, hospital or the military. 
\n
• 4 years of current Operating Room experience required for Expert level. \n
  \n
  • Advanced knowledge of at least 3 surgical specialists, must have 24/7 accountability in 1 or more of the following specialties: Cardiac Surgery (including Heart Transplant), Neurosurgery, Thoracic Lung Transplant, Transplant (Liver/Kidney), Trauma (General).
  \n
  • Must be a Solid/Strong/Good or higher on last performance evaluation.
  \n

• Access to medications is limited to the distribution of the medication to the nurse.
\n

\n

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire. Certified Surgical Technologists (CST) or Technologist Surgery Certified (TSC) required.

• Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
\n
• Certified Surgical Technologists (CST) OR Tech in Surgery-Certified (TSC)
\n
• Act 31, 33, 34, 73 clearances with renewal
\n
