Job Description

We are seeking a Data Engineer who will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining secure and scalable data pipelines and cloud-based data infrastructure to support Department of Defense (DoD) enterprise software applications in AWS GovCloud IL6 environments to support PLM software implementations for the Department of Defense (DoD). This is responsible for ETL/ELT workflows, data integration, and automation of analytics-ready datasets. The ideal candidate brings 3+ years of hands-on experience with AWS Glue, RDS (Oracle/PostgreSQL), data lake architectures, and is comfortable with DevSecOps software development best practices. The role requires strong cross-functional collaboration with software engineers, systems architects, and analysts to support the full lifecycle of data engineering solutions for secure, cloud-native applications. Candidates must hold an active security clearance, Security+ certification, and at least one current AWS certification.

Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Design, implement, and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines
  • Transform structured and unstructured data into analytics-ready formats for downstream systems.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot data pipeline issues across multiple environments (dev/test/prod).
  • Administer AWS data services including S3, RDS (PostgreSQL and Oracle), Glue Data Catalog, Serverless (Lambda, Step Functions), Secrets Manager, and IAM.
  • Manage data ingestion and transformation workflows to support PLM and enterprise systems.
  • Implement infrastructure-as-code (IaC) using tools like Ansible or Terraform to deploy and manage data infrastructure.
  • Design and optimize relational data models and storage schemas aligned to application requirements.
  • Support initial data seeding, data normalization, schema updates, and performance tuning of RDS instances.
  • Collaborate with analysts and developers to align disparate data sources and maintain high data integrity.
  • Implement data governance and security best practices in compliance with DoD cybersecurity standards (e.g., STIGs, RMF).
  • Develop and execute unit and integration tests for data pipelines to ensure reliability and quality.
  • Document data flow diagrams, schema definitions, and technical SOPs to support ATO (Authorization to Operate) efforts.
  • Contribute to knowledge sharing and support incident response for data-related issues.
  • Work closely with system engineers, application developers, and cybersecurity teams to meet mission requirements.

Required Qualifications:

  • Active U.S. DoD security clearance or ability to obtain one.
  • Currently hold at least one relevant AWS certification.
  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, software engineering, or other engineering discipline.
  • 3+ years of experience in cloud-based data engineering, including managing ETL/ELT pipelines and relational databases.
  • Proficiency in SQL, Python, and JAVA Proficiency with both Linux and Windows Server environments including command-line.
  • Experience administering AWS RDS (PostgreSQL and Oracle) including performance tuning and query optimization.
  • Advanced knowledge of Ansible playbooks, infrastructure-as-code (IaC), and CI/CD practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, technical communication, ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Desired Qualifications :

  • Current Security + certification.
  • Experience with AWS Glu
  • Experience building secure data systems in accordance with IL6, STIG, and RMF compliance standards.
  • Experience with RapidMiner
  • Experience with and certifications in Agile software development methodologies.
  • Experience integrating PLM systems (e.g. PTC’s Windchill or Siemens TeamCenter) or supporting enterprise engineering applications.
  • Familiarity with data streaming tools such as Kafka, Kinesis, or RabbitMQ.
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, RKE2, Rancher).
  • Exposure to machine learning, time series analysis, or predictive analytics tools.
  • Experience with observability platforms like Grafana, Kibana, or CloudWatch Dashboards.

Clearance Information: Some positions will require access to U.S. National Security information.
